Media in the San Bernardino Shooters’ Apartment

Hiya Ethics,

The building owner opened the apartment of the San Bernardino shooters this afternoon, and 100 journalists with cameras went inside:

Because they had permission, they didn’t trespass.  But what about interfering with a crime scene?  The police had not secured the scene, and a CNN analyst called that “the biggest law enforcement screw-up in history.”  What about providing necessary context? What about basic human decency?

Here’s what Poynter had to say:

Whatever these journalists thought they were accomplishing has been destroyed by viewers’ revulsion, as evidenced by the massive blowback on social media.
