Jayson Blair Speaks!

Hiya Ethics,

The NY Daily News interviewed Jayson Blair to get his thoughts on the Intercept’s firing of Juan Thompson for fabricating, much as he himself had done at the New York Times.

“It was like seeing in writing my own thought process” from his time at the Times, Blair said. “Trying to put the blame on someone else — that part was very familiar. It’s sad for me to see.”

Blair was a rising star at the Times when editors uncovered a pattern of fabricating and plagiarizing. In a 2003 article revealing his fraud, the Times called it “a low point in the 152-year history of the newspaper.”

Blair, who now works as a life coach, spoke to The News from his Virginia office. He never tried to reenter journalism, and advised the same for Thompson.

Life is once again following the calendar of Journalism Ethics.  Good material for the weekend!
