The Times and “the Bern”

Hiya Ethics,

I’ve been reading all week about a New York Times story on Bernie Sanders’ legislative accomplishments that morphed from a positive front page story in the paper to a less flattering version online—with no explanation. Public Editor Margaret Sullivan concluded that an editor’s explanatory note was necessary because the changes were substantial.

Clearly, this raises questions of fairness in the Times coverage of the Sanders campaign.

Kevin sent me a good summary from Medium of this situation. Take a look, and we’ll talk about it briefly on Tuesday.

We’ll also discuss Diversity. Please remember to do the readings.

Hope you had a great break!
